The Urge to Create
I believe, completely and thoroughly, that the desire to create is innate in each of us.
We were created, and we were designed to also create. I see this in how we communicate: for thousands of years we have kept history through storytelling, through art, through music. Creating helps us hold on to who we are, where we came from, and who we were made to be.
There are so many different ways we can channel this creativity: drawing, painting, sculpting, dancing, weaving, singing, playing an instrument, writing, gardening, filming, photographing…living.
This blog—and this site, really—was born from my own need for an outlet for my urge to create something.
I have been a writer my whole life. Before I was aware that I was a human being, I was writing. I never remember learning how to read, only that books were a part of me.
That desire to create with words has followed me my whole life. I have gone seasons without reading, without writing, and my life during those seasons has always felt just a bit more dull. Slightly lifeless.
I truly believe that when we create, we are channeling the image of the One who created us.
My hope with this platform is to bring attention to the creative in all of us, to encourage others to tap into that persistent need to create, to remind us that creativity is a process, and to share some of my own work.
I do hope you’ll join me for the ride.
